Terrible Times in the Last Days
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.
2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,
4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God —
5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. (NIV)
My Reflection on Terrible Times
As I look upon the things happening in the world today, the self-centeredness of people, their preoccupation with money and material things, the constant demand for personal rights and who cares about anyone else, and all the online boasting and self-pride. Furthermore, with all the atrocities happening all over the world, I cannot help but wonder if we are approaching the last days.
As Paul in his letter to Timothy says, there will be terrible times in the last days, and he pretty much describes the world of today. Indeed, if we look at verses 2 to 5, I think we can see that it all applies. All of us can agree, that it is sad and can be very discouraging, making us want to throw our hands up and say so what? What can I do?
I doubt we can change the world and all that is going on, on a macro-scale, but we can act on a micro-scale. However, we can be an influence for hope to the people around us. We can be lights in a world of darkness.
How? You may ask.
Be a force for good. Help those that need help. Be a friend to the friendless. Be a word of kindness. Be a shoulder to cry on or to help with. Live the life of Christ by loving those around you. Lead them to God in whatever fashion suits you. Not all of us are evangelists, or preachers, or teachers. No, most of us are shy and lack the words… the ability to speak and communicate clearly. We tend to stutter through life. So, if our words cannot speak, let your life speak. Let your walk in Christ speak. Be a light in the darkness!
World events will be what they are. Nevertheless, God has a plan, and all we can do is work within it. We are not to give up and wait for whatever is to come. No, we are to be the hands and feet of Christ.
So, yet, terrible times are to be expected in the last days. We don’t know if we are in the last days or not, but that is not important to us. We are alive and called to a purpose. Let’s carry it out.

In the darkest of times there is opportunity for our lights to shine ever brighter – by the grace of God. Thanks for your encouragement here!
Thank you Sharon,
I’m glad you found it encouraging.

I loved this reminder: Nevertheless, God has a plan, and all we can do is work within it. We are not to give up and wait for whatever is to come. No, we are to be the hands and feet of Christ.
Yes! May we trust in God’s plan as we stay in step with Him!
Even when things look “terrible” I want to live with faith and hope remembering that Jesus has already won the victory. And yes, your word of encouragement that however things look around us we have His Light to share as we extend a hand of loving kindness. Thanks for this word today.
Thank you Deb. Appreciate the word of encouragement.
Blessings

When I originally commented I appear to have clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and from now on every time a comment is added I receive four emails with the same comment. There has to be a way you can remove me from that service? Many thanks!
I will see what I can do. My apologies for this inconvenience.
